One of the only Vit C serums I can find without Vit E (ALWAYS breaks me out) or Propranediol (too slick feeling). Affordable too. I ❤️ it!

4.0 out of 5 stars A few DIY tweaks to hopefully optimize the skin healing benefits of this serum

After years of not paying attention to my skin, I've been noticing that I'm starting to develop fine lines on my forehead. Now that I'm noticing the lines, I've also started to notice other problems including hyper pigmentation from sun exposure and old acne, as well as overall skin dehydration. After I got over being freaked out about these visible signs of aging, I've been working on creating a skin care regimen to address these issues. Vitamin C has a strong evidence base in terms of improving skin health. I've investigated DIY vitamin C formulations, and while I'm eventually going to head in the DIY direction, gathering the raw materials, containers, and measurement devices is pretty expensive. NuFountain's C20 + Ferulic is a good alternative. One of the biggest drawbacks about vitamin C serums are that they rapidly oxidize. The NuFountain formulation contains Ferulic acid which synergistically works with vitamin C to protect against oxidation in the skin, however other, more expensive formulations additionally contain vitamin E and an accompanying emulsifier. Vitamin E is an oil soluble antioxidant that stabilizes and works synergistically with water soluble vitamin C to help retard oxidation. IMHO I'm thinking the vitamin E has not been added to the NuFountain formulation because the more expensive products have patented the C+E+ferulic acid + pH range combination that is most bioavailable. NuFountain's formulation hits all the targets except the vitamin E addition, but I can work with that. Since I'm a DIYer at heart, I've made a few changes to help with the oxidation problem. The first thing I've done is wrapped the bottle with aluminum foil to decrease light exposure as much as possible. Another change I've made is I've added a few drops of a vitamin E containing oil to the top of the bottle. Since there is no emulsifier, I haven't bothered shaking it - the oil is just to create a barrier between the serum and air. (I think a few drops of mineral oil might be even more effective, as mineral oil is inert and non-comedogenic, but that's a DIY aside). When it comes time to apply the serum (right after I've washed my face with a gentle non-dehydrating cleanser) I put a few drops of my vitamin E containing oil onto the palm of my hand, then add a few drops of the NuFountain vitamin C serum, then swirl them together, and then apply to my face with my fingertips. Other reasons why I like this formulation: -I have sensitive skin that reacts poorly to lemon\orange\other citrus extracts that smell good and are often added to other formulations. The NuFountain formulation doesn't contain any of these extra fragrances or ingredients that will irritate my skin. -It contains L-ascoborbic acid, which is the form of vitamin C which has been studied the most in terms of benefits to the skin. Many of the other companies formulations that can be found on Amazon.com contain less well studied forms of vitamin C and their efficacy has not been established. -The pH formulation is optimized so that the L-ascorbic acid is bioavailable. -It's a stand alone product that I can work into my overall skincare layering system (i.e. I'm taking my cue from Korean skincare tips). Note: I paid for this product myself and was not sponsored or asked to write a review!

Use instead of Skinceuticals C & E

Skinceuticals was getting too expensive and irritated my neck. Googled replacement for Skinceuticals and this came out highly rated. No irritation and better smell. Will use again.

C20 Ferulic

This is a really well made product that delivers results... I felt and noticed a difference in my skin's texture pretty quickly. It seemed to give me a slightly "rosy" effect which I don't mind because I can get quite pale during the winter months. That "glow" does dissipate later on. I've done a lot of research on this type of product and have read that you could probably make something like this yourself for just a fraction of the cost. Maybe at some point I will try that. But, for now this product is reasonably priced (at least compared to most brands) and I believe it's just as good if not better than more expensive brands.

Best Vitamin C serum in the whole world

Best Vitamin C serum in the whole world!!! Don't know how they do it keeping it so fresh! Usually c serums get oxidized after a few days no matter how much you prevent air contact. As advised, I keep this in the fridge and as soon as I take my drops I seal it right away. I use this for my body where my skin texture became dull. In just a week my skin has brightened up and looks fresh. Ordering more!!!!

The NuFountain difference

Most vitamin C is already fading before you open it

L-ascorbic acid is the most studied, most effective form of vitamin C — and the least stable. Once it's mixed, it slowly oxidizes into a form your skin can't use. That's why a serum bottled months ago on a warehouse shelf isn't the same as the day it was made.

Typical shelf serum

  • Mixed weeks or months before you buy it
  • No way to know how old the vitamin C really is
  • Potency quietly drops as it oxidizes
  • Often padded with fillers and fragrance

NuFountain C20 Ferulic

  • Blended the day your order ships
  • Hand-dated so you see exactly how fresh it is
  • Full 20% potency when it reaches your skin
  • Short, transparent ingredient list — nothing you don't need
What it does

One clean serum, three jobs

Vitamin C is one of the best-studied ingredients in skincare. Here's what consistent use of an active L-ascorbic acid serum supports.

Brightens & evens tone

Helps interrupt excess pigment so dark spots, sun marks and dullness gradually give way to a more even, lit-from-within look.

Supports firmness

Vitamin C is a key cofactor in your skin's own collagen production — which, with time, helps soften the look of fine lines.

Antioxidant defense

Ferulic acid works alongside vitamin C to help neutralize free radicals from pollution and daylight before they age skin.

What's inside

Four actives. Nothing to hide.

No fragrance, no oils, no long list of fillers — just a focused formula built around active L-ascorbic acid.

20%

L-Ascorbic Acid

The pure, active form of vitamin C — the one with the deepest research behind brightening, firmness and antioxidant protection.

+

Ferulic Acid

A plant antioxidant that helps stabilize vitamin C and amplifies its defense against environmental stress.

+

Hyaluronic Acid

Draws in moisture so the serum hydrates and cushions rather than leaving skin tight.

+

Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)

Soothing and conditioning — helps keep an active serum comfortable on daily use.

What to expect

Real results run on consistency

Vitamin C rewards daily use. Here's an honest timeline — individual results vary, and sunscreen every morning is what protects the progress.

Weeks 1–2

First glow

Skin often looks a little brighter and more hydrated as it gets used to the serum.

Weeks 4–6

Tone evens out

With daily use, dullness fades and skin tends to look clearer and more uniform.

Weeks 8–12

Deeper change

This is where dark spots and fine lines typically show their most visible improvement.

How to use

Four steps, morning or night

1

Cleanse

Start with clean, dry skin.

2

Apply 5–6 drops

Pat gently over the face and neck. A mild, warm tingle is normal at first.

3

Let it absorb

Give it a minute to dry before your next step.

4

Moisturize + SPF

Follow with moisturizer, and always sunscreen in the morning.

New to vitamin C? Start every other day and build up. Patch test first if your skin is sensitive. Keep the cap tight and store in a cool, dark place — refrigerate unopened bottles. If the serum turns deep amber, it has oxidized and it's time for a fresh one.
Protect your results

Vitamin C works best with daily sunscreen

We don't sell sunscreen — so this isn't an upsell. It's the single most important thing you can do to protect what your serum is working toward, and it's worth getting right.

Without daily SPF

  • UV light breaks vitamin C down and undoes your brightening
  • New dark spots and sun damage keep forming
  • Collagen breakdown speeds up, so fine lines deepen
  • Your serum is left fighting an uphill battle

Vitamin C + daily SPF

  • Locks in and protects your brightening progress
  • Helps stop new dark spots before they start
  • Guards the collagen your serum is helping build
  • The two work together for visibly better results

What to look for in a sunscreen

Broad-spectrum

Look for the words “broad-spectrum” — it protects against both UVA (aging) and UVB (burning) rays.

SPF 30 or higher

SPF 30 blocks about 97% of UVB. Go higher if you're outdoors a lot — just don't drop below 30.

Every single morning

Apply as the last step of your morning routine, over your serum. Reapply every two hours in direct sun.

A texture you'll wear

Mineral (zinc oxide, titanium dioxide) or a modern chemical filter — pick one that feels good so you use it daily.

Good to know

Questions, answered

What makes a “fresh” vitamin C serum different?
L-ascorbic acid is highly effective but unstable — it oxidizes over time, especially once mixed into water. Because we blend each bottle the day it ships and hand-date it, the vitamin C reaches your skin at full strength instead of partway through its decline.
How is the C20 Ferulic different from the original C20?
Both use 20% L-ascorbic acid. The Ferulic version adds ferulic acid for extra antioxidant defense plus hyaluronic acid and panthenol for more hydration and comfort — a great pick if you want a bit more cushion and everyday resilience.
Will it sting or tingle?
A mild, warm tingle when you first apply is normal with active vitamin C at this strength. If you're new to it or have sensitive skin, start every other day and patch test first. Persistent irritation means it's not the right strength for you — try our gentler C10 or C15 MAP.
How should I store it, and how long does it last?
Keep the cap closed and store in a cool, dark spot; refrigerate unopened bottles to extend freshness. Once opened, use it within about three months. A deep amber color is your signal it has oxidized and it's time for a fresh bottle.
When should I apply it?
Most people use it once daily on clean skin, morning or night. If you use it in the morning, always follow with a broad-spectrum sunscreen — it's what protects the brightening results your serum is working toward.
What if it doesn't work for me?
You're covered by our 30-day money-back guarantee — no need to return the bottle. If you're not happy, contact us for a full refund.
Zero risk

Try it for real. If it's not for you, we'll refund you.

We stand behind every fresh-blended bottle with a 30-day money-back guarantee — no returns required. That's how confident we are in what "fresh" does for your skin.
